Full DREAM INTERPRETATION (Sample 8)

The Hiding Cat

Dream Description From Client

Describe your dream.

I was at a friend’s weekend house and everyone was upstairs in the attic looking for one of her cats that was hiding. My friend said the cat was pregnant. The cat came to me and I took it into another part of the house. I was holding the cat and the cat appeared to be in discomfort. As I held the cat, it was apparently ready to give birth to a kitten. I held the cat while she had the kitten. The kitten came out, and was adorable and was running around. The cat was okay. The mother cat was a tan color and the kitten was gray like one of my cats. I have two cats, but I can’t remember the last time I dreamt of cats!

Describe what you were feeling during the dream and when you awoke after the dream. Include emotions as well as any physical sensations.

I felt happy to be able to help the cat. I also felt very calm. Everyone was running around like crazy looking for the cat. I just knew the cat would come to me. When I woke up, it just seemed like such an odd thing to dream about.

Describe any objects or other elements in the dream that seemed important or stood out.

Initially I was in an attic, even though my friend’s house doesn’t have an attic. When I left the attic, the place where I was not familiar.

Do you think the dream is related to events or situations in your life? If so, describe how.

I have been in my career for more than 30 years and I am now wanting to sell my business and start something else. Not sure what the next adventure will be yet.

Interpretation

Overall Interpretation

This dream may have been created by your subconscious mind to express and perhaps explore your thoughts and feelings relating to your “next adventure” in your life. Birth in a dream can represent the beginning of a new phase or project, especially one involving responsibility on the part of the dreamer - which would be consistent with starting a new phase of your career and taking on new responsibilities.

Significant Symbols, Themes, and Messages

A weekend may represent a break in a process, or a break between phases of something in real life - just as a weekend is a break from the work week, a break in the work cycle. It’s possible that the “weekend” setting in the dream represents the “in between” phase you are entering in your career. Although you haven’t sold your business yet, it sounds like you have mentally moved beyond it and are starting to explore (at least subconsciously) what the “next adventure” might feel like (represented by helping the cat give birth, and feeling calm during it and happy about it).

Next, you mentioned that everyone was upstairs in the attic at this friend’s house. An attic in a dream can represent something “higher” (perspective, wisdom, etc.) or more advanced (think about “climbing the ladder” in one’s career, having years of experience, etc.). An attic can also represent the spiritual level of a person’s experience, such as spiritual connection, inner wisdom or guidance, Higher Self, etc. So, consider which of these (or something else) you would use to characterize “everyone” who was up in the attic. For example, are many of your friends well advanced in their careers, or experts - or perhaps well-tuned to inner wisdom or intuition - or perhaps spiritual or on spiritual journeys? Hopefully, something here will resonate with you - and if not, consider what about those around you seems higher, more advanced, more toward higher wisdom or perspective, etc. It could just represent the wisdom that comes with many years of experience on this planet (age).

Next, your friend said the cat was pregnant, and when it came to you (which you said you knew it would), you took it to another part of the house. So, all the people were running around and looking for something that you just knew would come to you. Again, this would be consistent with “everyone” looking for the “right” career, a good life experience, happiness, fulfillment, etc. - and you just knowing that it will come to you. And perhaps you are anticipating it coming soon, before it comes to some others you know who are searching - since the cat came to you before/ instead of seeking out someone else.

Pregnancy in a dream can represent expectation of and preparation for something new (as it involves in real life), and birth can represent a new phase or project or responsibility, as I mentioned previously. So, the mother cat in the dream may represent the opportunity or potential for your new career, your expectation of and or (mental and emotional?) preparation for a new phase in your life. The cat coming to you could even represent the idea “coming to you” to sell your business and start something new - a harbinger of change and new beginnings. Another possibility is that the mother cat represents you (which may be why you knew it would come to you in the dream), “giving birth” to the next great thing in your life - your new project, your new responsibility, your new “baby.” This last possibility seems most likely to me, but you are the expert since you were the dreamer of the dream, so consider which meaning resonates with you.

So, along the same lines, the kitten would represent your “new adventure” - your new phase or project in your life/career. The fact that the kitten was running around, thriving, may represent the idea of your new business effort thriving - your expecting or imagining or maybe even knowing that it will.

You said that when the cat came to you, you took it to another part of the house. This may represent some aspect of your process change in your career area. Going to another part of the house - presumably a quiet place away from the others - may represent the same in real life. Maybe you have given yourself space in real life to explore new business possibilities away from others, or maybe you feel the need to do more of that - to get things clearer in your head, maybe to tune into your inner wisdom or intuition.

It’s interesting that this cat only had one kitten, since so many have multiple births. The single birth may be another confirmation that the kitten refers to one new project/phase in your life (as opposed to many changes or new responsibilities at once). This would be consistent with your saying that you want to start “something else” (not several new things).

Now, the fact that you dreamed of a cat specifically - not a human or a dog, etc. - may provide some more clues. Consider what salient characteristics come to mind when you think of cats, how you feel when you are around them - and this may be how you feel (or expect to feel) about your new adventure. Based on the feelings you described during the dream, it sounds like you may feel or hope that it will be fun, light, enjoyable - feelings like you experienced about the kitten in the dream.

As for the colors of the cats, I’m wondering what clues to meaning they can provide. You said the mother was tan, and I’m wondering if that’s a color you associate with yourself (perhaps you’re blonde, or wear tans or beiges a lot, or have those colors in your house or office, or you associate tan with your current business somehow?). If so, that could confirm the idea of the cat representing an aspect of you. The kitten being gray may be a nod to the gray cat you already have, which is an ongoing presence and responsibility that (presumably) also brings you fun, light, enjoyment, etc. - perhaps feelings you’d like your “new adventure” to bring more of. I suppose that the cats in the dream could symbolize that your new business could have something to do with cats, play, or something else you associate with cats - but that’s not as likely, since dreams often aren’t that literal.

So, in summary, this dream may be portraying your current thoughts, feelings, expectations, imaginings, etc. about something new coming up in your life. Keep in mind that the feelings you had during the dream - during the preparation part when you found the cat, during the change part when the kitten was born, and after the change had taken place (after the kitten arrived) - most likely are the same feelings you feel (or hope to feel in the future) about the change that the kitten birth represents in your real life.
